CWRU Wrestling Announces Team Awards at First-Annual Banquet

As a part of the Case Western Reserve University Wrestling Awards Banquet on Sunday, Spartans Head Coach Danny Song announced the winners of the 2015-16 team awards.

"Our first annual awards banquet was a great event," said Song.  "It is necessary to recognize those who emerged in each category. Perhaps the most encouraging aspect of the banquet were those who turned out to support, as we welcomed some forty guests.

"Tom Kerslake and members of the Vondruska family were on hand to present the Bill Kerlake, CIT '51 Award and Spartan Club Hall of Famer, Zak Kallai, CWRU '05 was our guest presenter for the Bob Del Rosa Award, the final piece of the awards program. These presenters did an outstanding job, adding meaning of each award and truly allowed us to pay homage to each award's namesake."

Team award winners for the 2015-16 season included the following:

Most Pins Award: Nick Lees (10)
Dr. Si Ostrach, Highest GPA Award: Matt Moy (4.0, fall semester)
John T. Vaughan Most Dedicated Award: Nick Tommas and Nate Tommas
The Coaches Outstanding Performance: - Matt Moy (Ashland Dual)
The Bill Kerslake Most Improved Award: Gavin Dersh-Fisher
The Bob Del Rosa Most Valuable Wrestler Award: Nick Lees & Brian McNamara

"There were many highlights this year," said Song.  "Chief among them was heavyweight Brian McNamara's UAA title, one of three CWRU student-athletes to win a UAA Championship this year.  Results aside, this year's aim was simple: establish a team identity with the ultimate goal to unite as a family.  We now have the foundation of our team identity and are making great progress."
