PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Case Western Reserve University freshman Aaran Gessic (Perry, Ohio/Perry) has been named the University Athletic Association Wrestler of the Week for the first time in his young career.

Gessic was 3-0 with an individual championship at 141 pounds during the 49th Annual RIT Invitational this past Saturday. He is now 9-0 for the season with four pins, two major decisions and a technical fall.

After receiving a bye into the second round on Saturday, Gessic defeated Sam Cullen of the State University of New York at Oswego via a 15-3 major decision. He then pinned Matt Pelton of Wesleyan University (Conn.) in 6:06 to advance to the championship match. Against Jake Sepor of host Rochester Institute of Technology (N.Y.), Gessic won the individual championship with a 16-2 major decision.

Gessic and the Spartans (4-2) are idle from competition until the 2014 Citrus Invitational in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Monday and Tuesday, December 29-30.
