Spartan Wrestlers Conclude Season at NCAA Mideast Regional

YORK, Pa. – The Case Western Reserve University wrestling team wrapped up the 2013-14 campaign at the NCAA Mideast Regional hosted by York College on Sunday at M&T Field House.

Sophomore 125-pounder Josh Hall (Galloway, Ohio/Bishop Ready) and freshman 149-pounder Luke Marcelli (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) each went 2-2 in the double-elimination tournament.

Hall won by an 8-3 decision over Dan Hoberney before falling to No. 2 seed and No. 6 nationally ranked ranked Matthias Ellis II. In the wrestle-back bracket, the Spartan captain stayed alive with a with a 3-0 decision against Jake Whitmer. Delian Schneider was Hall's final opponent in a 13-1 major decision loss.

Marcelli opened with a 2-0 decision versus Graham Montague, but the rookie fell to Brad Mayville in round two. Marcelli stayed in the wrestle back with a 16-0 technical fall of Trevor Meyers then fell to Jordan Dyer, 5-3.

Hall finishes his second season with the team at 18-8 overall. Marcelli wraps up his rookie year with a team-best 30 victories (30-12 overall).

Under second-year Head Coach Mark Hawald, the Spartans finished with a dual match record of 4-12. The four wins topped the program's total from the previous five seasons combined.
