CLEVELAND – Senior co-captain Brian Snyder (Charlotte, N.C./East Mecklenburg) pinned both of his opponents, and the Case Western Reserve University wrestling team split a tri-meet with the College of Mount Saint Joseph and Wheeling Jesuit University on Saturday afternoon at Horsburgh Gymnasium.

The Spartans (3-8) defeated Mount St. Joseph (1-10), 39-16, and fell to Wheeling Jesuit (4-4), 28-14.

In addition to Snyder's two pins at 157 pounds, freshman 149-pounder Luke Marcelli (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) was 2-0 with a pin and a technical fall to run his season mark to a team-best 24-9. Snyder's fellow senior co-captain, Noah Feldstein (Redwood City, Calif./Palo Alto), also compiled a 2-0 mark with a forfeit and an exhibition victory at 165.

Versus Mount St. Joseph, the Spartans opened with a 12-0 lead due to forfeits at 125 and 133 in favor of freshmen Matt Moy (Bayside, N.Y./Stuyvesant) and Jeff Gould (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon), respectively. A pin for the Lions at 141 was quickly cancelled out when Marcelli pinned Luis Godines in 6:09 to make the score 18-6. Snyder followed with a pin of his own in 1:13 versus Joe Kammerer, and Feldstein picked up a win by forfeit to bump the lead to 30-6.

At 174, freshman Nick Lees (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Ignatius) earned a 6-4 decision over Nick Manning before the Lions won by major decision at 184. The Spartans then got their final points thanks to a pin (4:25) at 197 by freshman Conor Driscoll (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) versus Nathan Islamovsky.

Versus Wheeling Jesuit, sophomore Josh Hall (Galloway, Ohio/Bishop Ready) put the Spartans on the board first with an 8-4 decision over Brad Kakos. The Cardinals then picked up a major decision and a decision to go ahead 7-3 before Marcelli won by technical fall (16-0) versus Jonathan Barrett to put the Spartans back on top, 8-7.

Snyder increased the lead with a pin of Robert Rogerson in 6:07, but Wheeling Jesuit would win the remainder of the points with three decisions and two forfeits.

The Spartans are back in action in New York City next Saturday, February 15 for the University Athletic Association Championship. The University of Chicago will be the team's first opponent at 11:00 a.m.
