Dukes Places Seventh at NCAA Championship, Caps Career as Three-Time All-American

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Case Western Reserve University senior 157-pounder Isaac Dukes (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna) wrapped up his storied career as a Spartan with a seventh-place finish and a third career All-American award on day two of the 2012 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championship at the La Crosse Center.

After rallying to post a 3-1 record on day one, Dukes wrapped up the tournament with a 1-1 mark on day two.

In his opening match on Saturday, the No. 6-seeded Dukes squared off with a familiar for in senior No. 3. Elias Larson of Trine University (Ind.). In the third all-time matchup between the two, Larson was able to come out on top via a 4-0 decision.

Dukes then pinned senior No. 8 Derek Brenon of Ithaca College (N.Y.) in 4:35 to wrap up his career and secure seventh place.

Dukes becomes the 19th All-American in CWRU wrestling history. A four-time national qualifier, he was the National Champion at 149 pounds in 2010 and the third-place finisher at 149 in 2011.

The senior also joins exclusive company as only the second grappler in program history to earn at least three All-American finishes. Zak Kallai was a four-time All-American for the Spartans from 2000-04.

Dukes finishes his senior season with an overall record of 14-5, putting him at 120-21 for his career. He ranks tied for fifth in school history in wins and third in winning percentage (.851).
