Case Western Reserve University sophomore guard/ forward Abbey Lawrence and graduate student forward Melissa Heath each received All-University Athletic Association honors for their play during the 2019-20 season, as announced by the conference on Thursday. Lawrence was selected to the All-UAA First Team, while Heath was chosen as an honorable mention.
It was the first career All-UAA honor for each player.
Lawrence led all Spartans and finished second among UAA players in 2019-20 with 16.2 points per game, while her 404 total points were the eighth-most ever by a CWRU player. She shot 42.6% overall from the floor, including 33.3% from three-point range, and her 85.4% mark from the free throw line was the third-best in the UAA and 25th among all NCAA Division III players. Lawrence finished the campaign with 10 games of 20 or more points, including a 30-point effort against Brandeis on January 31 and a 28-point game against NYU on February 2, earning USBWA National Player of the Week honors following the effort. She was tabbed as the UAA Athlete of the Week three times and named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week twice during the season.
Heath set a program record during her first season with the Spartans in 2019-20 with a 57.2 field goal percentage, leading all conference players in the category during the season. She played in all 25 games during the year, averaging 10.5 points per contest to go along with 5.2 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. In addition, Heath was fourth in the conference and 103rd in Division III with 1.6 blocks per game. Her 40 total blocks were the ninth-most in a single season ever by a Spartan player. She scored 20 or more points four times during the season, including a career-best 35-point effort against Emory on February 23.
The Spartans finished the 2019-20 season with a 10-15 overall record, and placed sixth in the final UAA standings with a 5-9 record in league games.
