Spartans Fall to #6 Hope in M-Club Tournament Opener

The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team suffered an 80-43 setback to sixth-ranked Hope College in the opening game of the M-Club Tournament in Alliance, Ohio on Friday night.

The loss dropped the Spartans to 1-5 overall, while Hope improved to 5-0.

First-year guard McKenna Gross came off the bench to pace the Spartans with eight points, shooting three-for-seven from the floor, including two-for-three from three-point range.  Graduate student forward Melissa Heath added seven points and four rebounds, and sophomore guard Alyssa Hyland finished the game with six points on a pair of three-pointers.

CWRU finished the game shooting 34.0% from the floor and 34.6% from three-point range, but were ultimately hurt by a -8 turnover margin, and a -17 rebounding margin.

Case Western Reserve will now move to the tournament's consolation game, where the team will face Juniata College, which lost to host Mount Union 91-67 in the other first-round game on Friday.
