Case Western Reserve University graduate student forward Kara Hageman was named the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week for Women's Basketball, after recording a double-double in each of the Spartans' two games last weekend.
This was her first UAA Athlete of the Week award of the season and the third of her career. It is also the third time this season a Spartans' player has been named the conference's women's basketball Athlete of the Week.
Hageman averaged 19.0 points and 11.5 rebounds over the two games, shooting 40.0% (14-of-35) from the floor, 27.3% (three-of-11) from three-point range and 77.8% (seven-of-nine) from the free throw line. She added four assists, six blocks and a steal during the weekend. On Friday night, in a 60-54 loss to Chicago, she scored 16 points and collected 10 rebounds, while shooting seven-of-17 from the floor and one-of-three from behind the arc with three assists three blocks and a steal. During an 81-62 loss to Washington on Sunday, she scored a season-high 22 points on a seven-of-18 shooting effort, connecting on two-of-eight three-point tries and all six free throw attempts, while securing 13 rebounds, an assist and three more blocks.
For the season, Hageman ranks fifth among UAA players with 15.7 points and second in the league with 9.3 rebounds per game, while also leading all Spartan players with 28 blocks (fourth among UAA players). She is tied for the team lead with eight double-doubles this season, including five in conference games,
CWRU stands at 12-8 on the season, including a 4-5 mark in UAA games. The Spartans will be on the road this weekend for the final time this season, facing New York University on Friday night and Brandeis University on Sunday afternoon.
