Women’s Basketball Ends UAA Road Weekend with Loss at NYU

The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team suffered a 72-30 setback to the New York University Violets on Sunday afternoon in New York, New York, to conclude their University Athletic Association road weekend.

Freshman Emily Todd led the team with 12 points on a four-of-eight shooting effort, connecting on four of her seven tries from behind the three point line.  Freshman forward Rebecca Rowlands added a team-high seven rebounds to go along with four points.

The Spartans struggled against an aggressive NYU defense, falling behind 22-9 after one quarter and 45-16 by halftime.  Case Western Reserve's best stretch of play came midway through the third quarter, when a pair of threes by Todd highlighted a 12-2 run that cut the Violets' advantage down to 53-28 with 3:53 remaining in the quarter.  However, the Violets closed the period on a 9-0 run to lead 62-28 heading into the final quarter, en route to closing out the 72-30 win.

NYU's Kaitlyn Read finished with a double-double, scoring 25 points and registering 12 steals, one shy of the UAA single-game record.

The loss dropped the Spartans to 3-14 on the year and 0-7 in UAA play, while NYU improved to 10-8 on the campaign with a 3-4 conference record.

Case Western Reserve will return home next weekend for the team's annual Throwback Weekend games.  The Spartans will take on Brandeis University at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2nd and New York University at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 4th at historic Adelbert Gymnasium, wearing the uniform of Mather College for both games.  More information on the Throwback Weekend festivities will be posted to athletics.case.edu throughout the week.
