The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team wrapped up the non-conference portion of its schedule on Saturday afternoon at the Smokey Ballenger Classic in Westerville, Ohio, falling by a score of 78-40 to 21st-ranked Marietta College.

The Spartans will head into University Athletic Association play with a 3-7 overall record following Saturday's loss, while Marietta remained perfect on the season with an 11-0 record.

Junior guard Alexis Amburgey made four of her seven attempts from three point range to lead all CWRU players with a career-high 13 points, while junior forward Hillary Hellmann added 11 points and a team-leading seven rebounds during the game.

An early three pointer by Amburgey the Spartans ahead in the opening minute of the game, but the Pioneers followed with a 9-0 run to take the lead for good, pulling away by the end of the first half, 43-13.  After Marietta scored the first basket of the second half, the Spartans rallied for a 9-0 run behind a three pointer from Amburgey and two more threes from Hellmann that cut the Pioneers' lead to 45-22 with 5:37 to play.  However, the Spartans would be unable to get any closer for the remainder of the game.
