Women’s Basketball to Host Oberlin & John Carroll after Thanksgiving

The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team will wrap-up a three-game home stand this weekend, when the team hosts Oberlin College on Saturday, November 26th and John Carroll University on Sunday, November 27th at Horsburgh Gymnasium.  Tip-off for both games is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

CWRU Spartans
The Spartans are 2-2 on the season, following a 91-86 loss in overtime to Baldwin Wallace University on Tuesday night that dropped the team to 0-2 at home this season.  Case Western Reserve has averaged 77.5 points per game this year on 44.7% shooting from the field on offense, while allowing 82.8 points per game on defense.  The team has a -4.2 rebounding margin and -0.5 turnover margin.

Junior forward Kara Hageman has led the Spartans this season with 22.0 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, while adding a team-leading 11 blocks.  Sophomore forward Hillary Hellmann has scored 19.3 points per game and collecting 5.3 rebounds per contest, and senior guard Jess McCoy has averaged 10.3 points and 6.8 rebounds, while leading the team with 16 assists and 13 steals.

Case Western Reserve is under the leadership of Head Coach Jennifer Reimer, who is in her 10th season with the Spartans.  She holds an overall record of 266-219 (.548 winning percentage) during her 20-year career, and her 109 wins at CWRU are just 11 shy of the program's all-time record.  She is assisted by Alexandra Dellas and Erin Gdaniec.

Oberlin Yeowomen
The Yeowomen have opened their season with a 1-2 overall record, including a 57-41 loss at Trine University on Tuesday.  Oberlin will be wrapping-up a season-opening four-game road trip with its contest against the Spartans on Saturday.  The team has averaged 46.0 points per game this season, while shooting 38.7% from the field.  Defensively, they have allowed 59.7 points per contest, and has a rebounding margin of +4.0 and a turnover margin of -7.7.

The team's top scorer and rebound is s1ophomore center Olivia Canning with 10.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per contest, while also leading all Oberlin players with 12 blocks during the campaign.  Junior guard Taylor Parlor has added 9.7 points and 8.0 rebounds per game, and junior forward Abby Andrews has contributed 8.3 points per game this year.

Oberlin is led by Head Coach Kerry Jenkins, who is in his ninth season at the program's helm, and ranks as the winningest coach in team history with a career ledger of 69-142.  He is assisted by Casi Donelan and Gary Simkovich.

The Spartans hold a 29-18 record in the series with Oberlin, which dates back to the 1976-77 season.  The teams last met on December 6, 2010, when the Yeowomen topped CWRU 79-78 in overtime in Oberlin, Ohio.  Former Spartan and current assistant coach Erin Gdaniec (née Hollinger) led CWRU with 20 points and seven rebounds in the game.

John Carroll Blue Streaks
John Carroll has opened its season with a 1-1 record, picking up a 73-58 win over Saint Vincent College and suffering a 76-68 setback to La Roche College, both at home.  The Blue Streaks are averaging 70.5 points per game this season, while shooting 45.0% from the field as a team.  They are allowing 67.0 points per game, with a +6.5 rebounding margin and a -7.5 turnover margin.

Senior guard Kelly Spahar leads the team with 20.0 points per game this year, and has added 6.5 rebounds per contest.  Sophomore forward Camille Adelman leads the team with 10.0 rebounds per game and has added 6.5 points per contest, and junior guard Shmoo Pryor has scored 18.5 points per game with 5.0 rebounds per contest.

The Blue Streaks are under the leadership of Head Coach Kelly Morrone, who is now in her fourth season with the team, and has a career record of 58-24.  She is assisted by Chanel Murchison and Sherrie Session.

Case Western Reserve is 10-17 all-time against John Carroll, in a series that first began in 1973-74.  Last season, the Spartans overcame a 12-point fourth quarter deficit to top the Blue Streaks 80-79 in University Circle.  Down 69-57 with 8:49 remaining in the game, the Spartans went on a 20-1 run to take a 77-70 lead, before holding on for the victory.  Hageman scored 27 points in the win, a career high at the time, and McCoy added a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.  Hellmann (11 points, eight rebounds) and Alex Roth (10 points, five rebounds) also scored in double figures in the game.

Spartan Notes
The Spartans have scored 80 or more points in three straight games, the team's longest such stretch since the 2002-03 season… In the program's history, the team has never reached 80 points in four-consecutive games… CWRU leads all University Athletic Association teams with 5.8 blocks per game… Kara Hageman has scored 20 or more points in three-straight games for the first time in her career… She is currently leads all UAA players with 2.8 blocks per game and is ranked third in the UAA in points per game and fifth in rebounds per game… Hageman's 11 blocks this season give her 55 for her career, tied with former Spartan Teri Chester (1993-97) for the eighth-most in the program's history… Jess McCoy is seventh in school history with 71 career blocks… McCoy is 210 points shy of 1,000 for her career, and 23 points shy of cracking the school's top-20 scorers list… Her 73 career starts are the ninth-most in school history, and three shy of tying Ashley Tondo (2006-10), Marissa Miles (2009-13) and Caitlin Henry (2007-11) for the sixth-most in program history.
