CWRU Women's Basketball Concludes Season with 83-49 Loss at Carnegie Mellon

The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team wrapped-up the 2015-16 season on the road on Saturday afternoon with an 83-49 loss at University Athletic Association competitor Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Sophomore forward Kara Hageman led the offensive attack for the Spartans with 17 points, six rebounds and two steals. Also in double digits for CWRU was freshman guard Hillary Hellmann with 12 points. Senior forward Laura Mummey contributed seven points and five rebound.

For the Tartans Lisa Murphy scored a game-high 36 points while bringing down 12 rebounds.

At 6:07 remaining in the first quarter, the Tartans went on an 11-2 run to pull ahead and would end the period with a 21-12 lead. CMU took the largest lead in the first half of 19 points with 1:14 left to play in the half and would head to the locker room ahead 44-26.

The Spartans pulled within 16, 56-40, with 3:54 left to play in the third with made free throws from Hellmann and freshman forward Darby Kreienberg, but Carnegie Mellon would not allow the Spartans to get any closer.

With the win, the Tartans swept the 2016 two-game series between the teams and finished the regular season with a 19-6 overall record and an 8-6 mark in the UAA.

The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team finished the 2015-16 season with an overall record of 8-17 and a 3-11 mark in the UAA.
