Spartan Women Set to Host Emory and Rochester for Throwback Weekend at Adelbert Gymnasium

CLEVELAND – The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team hosts Emory University (Ga.) and the University of Rochester (N.Y.) during CWRU's 10th Annual Throwback Weekend (February 20-22) at Adelbert Gymnasium.

Both games can be viewed live online with Eddy Jansen on the call for CWRU's award-winning MediaVision. The pregame show begins 10 minutes prior to game time.

TURNING UP THE VOLUME
After averaging 9.5 points in 11 non-conference games, Brooke Orcutt has averaged 12.5 points during 11 UAA contests. During the conference stretch, Orcutt has turned in three 20-plus point efforts.

POWER OF THREE
Three from CWRU rank in the top 20 in the UAA in points per game. Brooke Orcutt (11.0 ) ranks ninth, Laura Mummey (10.2) is 11th and Jessica McCoy (8.9) is 15th.

MUMMEY'S THE WORD
Laura Mummey has scored in double-figures in 15 of the team's 22 games, including a season-high 20-point effort at the University of Rochester on January 25.

GUARDING THE THREE
The Spartans rank second in the UAA in opponent three-point shooting percentage (.268).

HOME COOKIN'
CWRU is 25-14 in 39 home games (all at Horsburgh Gymnasium) since the beginning of the 2011-12 season.

MATHER COLLEGE
As part of CWRU's 10th Annual Throwback Weekend, the Spartan women are wearing uniforms commemorating Flora Stone Mather College. Named in honor of its leading benefactress Flora Stone Mather, FSMC operated under the trusteeship of Western Reserve University. WRU and Case Institute of Technology federated in 1967 to become Case Western Reserve University, and the first Spartan women's basketball team took the court in 1971.

SERIES NOTES - CWRU vs. Emory
Case Western Reserve and Emory have met 43 times on the hardwood with the Spartans holding a 25-18 lead in the all-time series. Including an Emory victory earlier this season, the home team has won three straight in the series. The first-ever meeting between the two schools took place during the 1986-87 campaign and resulted in a 79-37 victory for the Spartans.

LAST MEETING - CWRU vs. Emory
Brooke Orcutt posted 18 points, five rebounds and four assists, but the Spartans fell to Emory by a score of 65-62 on January 23, 2015 in Atlanta. Also for CWRU, Laura Mummey scored 18 points, and Jessica McCoy contributed 11. Khadijah Sayyid led the Eagles with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Dumebi Egbuna contributed 13 points and seven boards.

Laura Mummey recorded a game-high with 20 points and Berit Eppard added 14, but the Spartans let a 17-point lead slip away in a 55-54 loss at Rochester on January 25, 2015. The Yellowjackets were led by Alexandra Leslie with a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds.

Emory has dropped three in a row, including a pair of home losses last weekend to then No. 6/7 nationally ranked Washington U. and Chicago. In the loss to Chicago, Khadijah Sayyid scored 11 points, while Dumebi Egbuna posted 10 points and six rebounds. As a team, the Eagles rank second in the UAA at 10.3 steals per game. Individually, Sayyid is the fourth-best scorer in the UAA at 14.3 ppg and ranks fifth in both rebounding (7.9 rpg) and three-point shooting (.371). Ilene Tsao ranks third in assists (3.7 apg).
