Spartan Women Set to Host Chicago and No. 6/7 Washington U. this Weekend; Watch Live via MediaVision

CLEVELAND – The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team is back home to host a pair of University Athletic Association foes this weekend at Horsburgh Gymnasium. The Spartans host the University of Chicago at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6 as well as No. 6/7 nationally ranked Washington University at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 8.

Both games can be viewed live online with Ron Jantz (play-by-play) and Eddy Jansen (color commentary) on the call for CWRU's award-winning MediaVision. The pregame show begins 10 minutes prior to game time.

TURNING UP THE VOLUME
After averaging 9.5 points in 11 non-conference games, Brooke Orcutt has averaged 14.1 points during seven UAA contests. During the conference stretch, Orcutt has twice scored 23 points in a game.

POWER OF FOUR
Four from CWRU rank in the top 20 in the UAA in points per game. Brooke Orcutt (11.3) ranks eighth, and Laura Mummey (10.2) is 10th. Berit Eppard (8.9) and Jessica McCoy (8.9) are tied for 18th.

MUMMEY'S THE WORD
Laura Mummey has scored in double-figures in 12 of the team's 18 games, including a season-high 20-point effort at the University of Rochester on January 25.

GUARDING THE THREE
The Spartans rank first in the UAA in opponent three-point shooting percentage (.256).

HOME COOKIN'
CWRU, 5-2 at home this season, is 25-12 in 37 games played at Horsburgh Gymnasium since the beginning of the 2011-12 season.

THROWBACK WEEKEND
The CWRU Athletic Department will take its yearly step back in time during the weekend of February 20-22 when it hosts the 10th Annual Throwback Weekend with UAA doubleheaders versus Emory University (Ga.) and the University of Rochester (N.Y.). The Spartan women will wear uniforms commemorating Flora Stone Mather College.

CWRU vs. UC SERIES NOTES
The Spartans and Maroons have met 44 times on the hardwood with Chicago holding a 33-11 lead in the all-time series. Chicago has won three in a row in the series dating back to a 76-71 overtime win for the Spartans in the "Windy City" on February 1, 2013. The first-ever meeting between the two schools took place during the 1986-87 campaign and resulted in a 59-55 victory for the Maroons.

CWRU vs. UC LAST MEETING
Kara Hageman and Berit Eppard scored 12 points apiece, but the Spartans fell to the Maroons, 74-59, last Friday in Chicago. Chicago placed four players in double-digits led by Elizabeth Nye with 19 points and Morgan Donovan with 17. Claire Devaney and Caitlin Moore contributed 16 and 10 points, respectively.

CWRU vs. WU SERIES NOTES
The Spartans and Bears have met 43 times on the hardwood with Washington U. having won 42 times. In 2013, CWRU earned the first victory over the Bears in program history with a 72-68 win over then No. 7 Washington U. on January 27, 2013 in Cleveland. The first-ever meeting between the two schools came during the 1987-88 season.

CWRU vs. WU LAST MEETING
Brooke Orcutt tied a season high with 23 points, but Case Western Reserve lost to the then No. 6/9 nationally ranked Bears, 71-60, last Sunday in St. Louis. Washington U. was led by Melissa Gilkey with 28 points, seven rebounds and four blocks.

Tied for first place in the conference with Washington U. and New York University, the Maroons have won six in a row. Chicago ranks third in the UAA in scoring (71.2 ppg) and leads the conference with 124 three-pointers. Claire DeVaney is the sixth-best scorer in the UAA at 11.7 ppg, while Morgan Donovan ranks 12th at 9.8 ppg. Donovan is also the UAA Co-Player of the Week after averaging 17.5 points and 3.0 assists against Case Western Reserve and Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) last weekend. In the win against Carnegie Mellon, the Maroons hit 12 three-pointers as Donovan (18), Devaney (15) and Hannah Ballard (12) all scored in double-figures.

Ranked sixth in the USA Today Top 25 and seventh by D3Hoops.com, the Bears have won three in a row after suffering their only loss of the season on January 23 at NYU. Washington U. ranks first in the UAA in both scoring offense (74.9 ppg) and defense (52.2 ppg) as well as first in assists (18.6 apg) and second in rebounding (44.4 rpg). Nationally, the Bears are third in assists per game. Melissa Gilkey ranks second in the UAA in scoring (19.6 ppg), rebounding (9.4 rpg) and blocked shots (1.7 bpg). Jordan Thompson is the UAA leader in assists (4.1 apg). Natalie Orr was named UAA Co-Player of the Week after averaging 16.0 points and 4.5 assists off of the bench against CWRU and Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) last weekend.
