LAST TIME OUT
Despite leading by 11 in the second half, the Spartans fell on New Year's Eve by a score of 78-66 to No. 25 nationally ranked John Carroll University. CWRU was led by junior post Laura Mummey with 16 points and five rebounds. Senior wing Brooke Orcutt also scored 16, while senior forward Berit Eppard added 10 points and five boards.
POWER OF FOUR
In CWRU's five victories this season, four players have averaged double-digit points; Jessica McCoy (11.6), Brooke Orcutt (11.2), Laura Mummey (10.8) and Berit Eppard (10.4). In the team's five losses, no Spartan has averaged double-digits.
ESTABLISHING A BENCHMARK
The Spartans scored a season-high 36 points off of the bench in a December 3 win at The College of Wooster. Overall in the last five games, 36% of the team's points have come courtesy of reserve players. Freshman forward Kara Hageman has been the top Spartan off of the bench, averaging 7.3 points.
CWRU, 3-1 at home this season, is 23-11 in 34 games played at Horsburgh Gymnasium since the beginning of the 2011-12 season.
TO BE YOUNG
On January 9, junior guard Emily Young will depart for a three-month volunteer experience in East Africa. Young will work at a hospital and orphanage in a village near Mount Kilimanjaro.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN WAY
Seniors Berit Eppard and Brooke Orcutt, who prepped at high schools located just 17 miles apart in suburban Denver, Colorado, serve as two of the team's tri-captains.
The game against Ohio Northern will mark CWRU's 11th and final non-conference contest of the season. The team has finished its non-conference schedule with a winning record in nine consecutive seasons. The team is 64-34 against non-University Athletic Association opponents during that span.
SCOUTING THE POLAR BEARS
The Polar Bears won their second in a row with a score of 82-46 against Muskingum University on December 20. Eleven different Polar Bears scored in the contest, four of which were in double-digits, led by Carly Thomas with 15 points.
Despite competing annually against schools from the Ohio Athletic Conference, CWRU's women's hoops program has never faced Ohio Northern. The Spartans are 2-1 against OAC teams this season with wins against the University of Mount Union and Baldwin Wallace University.
The Case Western Reserve Athletic Department will take its yearly step back in time during the weekend of February 20-22 when it hosts the 10th Annual Throwback Weekend with University Athletic Association doubleheaders versus Emory University (Ga.) and the University of Rochester (N.Y.). The Spartan women will wear uniforms commemorating Flora Stone Mather College.
