WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Case Western Reserve University women's basketball team battled back from a nine-point deficit in the second half but eventually fell to Delaware Valley College by a score of 58-52 on the second day of the 2014 Hoops for Hounds Classic at Lycoming College's Lamade Gymnasium.

The Spartans drop to 5-4, while the Aggies improve to 5-8.

Senior forward Brooke Orcutt (Morrison, Colo./Dakota Ridge) just missed a double-double for CWRU with 15 points and nine rebounds. Freshman forward Kara Hageman (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley Central), who was named to the all-tournament team, added 11 points and seven boards.

Brenna Coll paced the Aggies with 18 points and eight rebounds, while Brittany Wood posted 15 and two steals.

Despite her team never leading in the first half, Spartan senior guard Rachel Beaty (Carrollton, Texas/Hebron) scored eight points off of the bench. Overall, CWRU reserves outscored those from Delaware Valley, 23-7. The Spartans also dominated on the boards with an advantage of 52-34.

After leading for all but 1:41 in the first half, the Aggies built their advantage to as many as nine early on in the second. The Spartans then rode a 10-0 run and led for the first time with 12:55 remaining as Hageman hit a three-point shot to make the score 38-36.

After eight minutes of back and forth play, Delaware Valley moved ahead for good at 4:35 with a three-pointer by Kelsey Kilpatrick that made the score 51-49.

The Spartans now return home for a 1:00 p.m. matchup on New Year's Eve versus local-rival John Carroll University.
