The Case Western Reserve University softball team placed five players on the 2020 All-University Athletic Association Team as announced by the UAA office on Wednesday.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Spartans were only able to play 10 spring break games in Florida. The team finished the shortened 2020 campaign with a 6-4 overall record and notched its ninth-consecutive winning season. CWRU won its last two games in Clermont, Florida, including a 12-2 run-rule shortened victory over Defiance College.
Unlike previous years, where first- and second-All-UAA teams were selected, there was only one All-UAA team recognized in 2019-20, due to the shortened season.
The five Spartan student-athletes to earn All-UAA honors were senior first baseman Nicole Carty, senior pitcher/ outfielder Ilissa Hamilton, junior shortstop Sarah Miller, junior catcher Dusstyn Reynolds and sophomore third baseman Liv Thomas.
Carty, a two-time All-UAA selection, started all 10 games for the Spartans, leading the team with 10 RBI's, ranking tied for first on the team in home runs with one and ranking third among all CWRU players with a .406 batting average. For her career, Carty ranks tied for fourth in school history with eight triples, tied for sixth in home runs with 14 and 10th in runs batted in with 90.
Hamilton, a three-time All-UAA selection, led the team with a 2.63 earned run average as she only allowed 12 earned runs in 32 innings pitched. She ranked first on the team with 27 strikeouts and posted a 3-1 record in five starts. Hamilton also totaled a team-high four complete games. In addition to her work on the mound, Hamilton batted .217 (5-for-23) with one double, six RBI's and eight runs scored. In just three years as a Spartan, Hamilton ranks fourth in school history with 326 strikeouts, sixth in wins with 37 and seventh in innings pitched with 338.1.
Miller finished her junior season ranked second among CWRU players with a .500 batting average (17-for-34). She led the team in runs scored (14), stolen bases (11), doubles (4) and triples (2). In addition, Miller also collected one home run and seven runs batted in.
Reynolds ranked first on the squad with 21 hits in 40 at-bats for a .525 batting average. She ranked tied for second on the team with three doubles, while also tallying eight RBI's and seven runs scored. Reynolds earned UAA hitter of the week honors on March 16th.
Thomas, a two-time All-UAA selection, finished her sophomore campaign ranked fourth among CWRU players with a .394 batting average. She finished tied for first on the team with one home run and second with nine runs batted in. Thomas also scored four runs and collected three walks.
