Case Western Reserve University junior first baseman Nicole Carty was named the University Athletic Association Hitter of the Week for Softball, while junior pitcher Ilissa Hamilton was named the UAA Pitcher of the Week, after helping the Spartans sweep Ohio Northern University last Tuesday.
Carty batted .571 (four-for-seven) and drove in five runs, while also hitting two doubles, one home run and scoring two runs. During the Spartans' 11-3 win in five innings, Carty led the Spartans at the plate with a three-for-four performance, including five RBI's, two runs scored and one home run.
For the season, Carty leads the team with a .422 batting average (54-for-128) and has hit a team-high seven home runs and tallied 27 RBI's. She currently leads the University Athletic Association in both batting average and home runs. This was Carty's second career UAA Hitter of the Week honor.
Hamilton went 1-0 on the mound, allowing three runs (zero earned) in seven innings pitched, to lead the Spartans to a 6-3 win over Ohio Northern University in the first game of the doubleheader on Tuesday. Hamilton scattered eight hits throughout the game and struck out two batters. In addition, Hamilton went two-for-five at the plate during the doubleheader with one double and one run scored.
For the season, Hamilton has a 13-6 overall record, including a team-high 13 complete games. She has totaled 121.1 innings pitched, allowing 52 earned runs on 125 hits. Hamilton currently leads the team with 115 strikeouts and ranks second in the University Athletic Association. This was Hamilton's sixth career UAA Pitcher of the Week honor.
Case Western Reserve ended the 2019 season with an overall record of 25-13, including a 10-8 mark in conference play.
