CWRU Softball to Wrap-Up Season against Ohio Northern on Tuesday

The Case Western Reserve University softball team will wrap-up its 2019 regular-season on Tuesday, April 30th, when the team hosts a doubleheader against Ohio Northern University at Mather Park, starting at 3:30 p.m.

The Spartans were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader against Ohio Northern on Tuesday, April 23rd, but had to postpone the doubleheader due to inclement weather in the area.

CWRU Spartans
Case Western Reserve will enter Tuesday's games with a 23-13 overall record, after the team swept a four-game series at Washington (Mo.) University this past weekend. The team is batting .340 this season and averaging 6.1 runs per game, while the pitching staff is tallying a 3.00 earned run average and a .271 opponents' batting average.

The Spartans are under the leadership of Head Coach Josie Henry, who is in her ninth season with the team, and has a career record of 228-140. Henry is assisted by Andrea Nagy, Ashley Parello, Katleyn Gibson and Hannah Mehrle.

Ohio Northern Polar Bears
The Polar Bears will enter Tuesday's doubleheader in a bit of a slump, after being swept by Muskingum University on Saturday. Ohio Northern stands at 21-15 overall on the year, including a 6-6 mark in away contests. The team is batting .345 this season and averaging 5.8 runs per game, while the pitching staff has a 3.94 earned run average and a .293 opponents' batting average.

Ohio Northern is under the leadership of Head Coach Jackie Price, who is in her third season with the program. She is assisted by Tina Martinez and Les Bowman.

Last year, the Spartans and Polar Bears met during the 2018 NCAA Division III Regionals at St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana. Ohio Northern won the first meeting 1-0 on the opening day of the Regional, but then the Spartans came back to sweep the Polar Bears on the final day of the Regional to advance to the NCAA Super Regionals. Junior Ilissa Hamilton was named the Notre Dame Regional Most Outstanding Player, after throwing 29 of a possible 35 innings, compiling and ERA of 0.72 to go along with 23 strikeouts.

The Spartans are currently 10-6 in games at Mather Park this season…Junior Nicole Carty is first on the squad with a .413 batting average (50-for-121)…Carty has a team-best six home runs and currently ranks first on the team with 14 multiple hit games this season…Senior Nicole Doyle ranks first on the squad with 10 multiple RBI games his year and leads the team with 35 runs batted in…The Spartans have hit .348 (130-for-374) with runners in scoring position this season, and .582 (53-for-91) with a runner on third and less than two outs.
