CWRU Softball Heads to St. Louis to Face Wash U. this Weekend

With just six games remaining on its regular-season schedule, the Case Western Reserve University softball team will travel to St. Louis, Missouri for a four-game series against the Washington (Mo.) University Bears from Friday through Saturday at the WU Softball Field.

The series is scheduled to open with a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m. ET on Friday, April 26th. The two teams are slated to wrap-up play on Saturday, April 27th with a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. ET. As always, the schedule is subject to change due to weather. CWRU Spartans
Case Western Reserve will enter the weekend with a 19-13 overall record and 6-8 mark in the conference, after the team lost three of four games to Emory University last weekend. The team is batting .338 this season and averaging 5.8 runs per game, while the pitching staff is tallying a 3.07 earned run average and a .262 opponents' batting average.

The Spartans are under the leadership of Head Coach Josie Henry, who is in her ninth season with the team, and has a career record of 224-140. Henry is assisted by Andrea Nagy, Ashley Parello, Katleyn Gibson and Hannah Mehrle.

Washington Bears
The Bears will host their final UAA home series of the season this weekend, as they enter with an overall record of 15-14 and 4-7 in the UAA. Washington has hit .296 this year and averaged 4.6 runs per game, while the pitching staff has a 3.59 ERA with a .286 opponents' batting average.

The Bears are led by Head Coach Michelle Venturella, who is in her third season with the program. She is assisted by Kaitlyn Dulac, Mitch Thomas, Laurel Sagartz and Dan Coffman.

Series History
This will be the third year that CWRU will play on a campus site during the Coach Henry era, and the second that the two teams will play in St. Louis.

Last year, the Spartans won three out of the four games against Washington in Cleveland, Ohio. Junior Ilissa Hamilton went 2-0 on the mound, allowing four earned runs in 13.0 innings pitched, while striking out 21 batters. At the plate, she went two-for-nine with one RBI and one run scored.

The Spartans are currently 5-3 in road contests this season…Junior Melissa Cuellar is first on the squad with a .417 batting average (25-for-60)…Junior Nicole Carty has a team-best six home runs and currently ranks tied for first on the team with senior Nicole Doyle with 12 multiple hit games this season…Doyle also ranks tied for first with sophomore Dusstyn Reynolds with eight multiple RBI games his year…The Spartans have hit .334 (104-for-311) with runners in scoring position this season, and .584 (45-for-77) with a runner on third and less than two outs.
