CWRU Softball Hosts Emory for Four Games this Weekend; Including ‘Senior Day’ on Saturday

The Case Western Reserve University softball team will welcome Emory University to Mather Park for a four-game series from Friday, April 19th through Saturday, April 20th.

The series is scheduled to open with a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19th. The two teams are slated to wrap-up play on Saturday, April 20th with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.

The UAA Champion is determined based on winning percentage among teams with at least 10 UAA games played.

Senior Day
Prior to the start of the game on Saturday, the Spartans will honor the team's graduating senior player – shortstop Nicole Doyle. Doyle has helped Case Western Reserve go 97-58 over the last four seasons, good for a .626 winning percentage. Included in the overall record was a 38-12 campaign in 2018, setting the program record for victories in a season. The squad finished tied for fifth at the 2018 NCAA Division III Softball Championships, which was the highest national finish for any team in Case Western Reserve University athletics history.

CWRU Spartans
The Spartans will begin their third and final UAA home weekend with an overall recorded of 18-10 and 5-5 in the conference, after sweeping Heidelberg University on Wednesday. The team has hit .345 this season and averaged 5.9 runs per game this season, while the pitching staff has a team ERA of 2.60 with an opponent's batting average of .255.

Case Western Reserve is under the leadership of Head Coach Josie Henry, who is in her ninth season with the team, and has a career record 223-137. Henry is assisted by Andrea Nagy, Ashley Parello, Katelyn Gibson and Hannah Mehrle.

Emory Eagles
The Eagles will play their second UAA road series of the season this weekend, as they enter with an overall record of 23-9 and 9-3 in the UAA. Emory has hit .318 this year and averaged 6.3 runs per game, while the pitching staff has a 3.00 ERA with a .266 opponents' batting average.

The Eagles are led by Head Coach Adrianna Baggetta, who is in her first season with the program. She is assisted by Amanda Marshall.

Series History
This will be the third year that CWRU and Emory will play on a campus site during the Coach Henry era, and the second that the two teams will play in Cleveland.

Last year, the Spartans were swept by the Eagles in a four-game series at Cooper Field in Atlanta, Georgia.

Spartan Notes
The Spartans are currently 9-3 in games at Mather Park this season…Junior Nicole Carty is first on the squad with a .420 batting average (37-for-88) and currently leads the team with 11 multiple hit games this year…Sophomore Dusstyn Reynolds has a team-best eight multiple RBI games and ranks first on the team with 27 RBI's…In addition, Reynolds ranks tied for first with freshman Liv Thomas in home runs (5)…Thomas also currently has the longest hit streak of a Spartan so far this season with a 20-game hitting streak…The Spartans have hit .341 (93-for-273) with runners in scoring position this season, and .591 (39-for-66) with a runner on third and less than two outs.
