CWRU Softball to Host Carnegie Mellon this Weekend

The Case Western Reserve University softball team will begin their second week of conference play at home this weekend, when the team welcomes Carnegie Mellon University to Mather Park for a four-game series. This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs, as Carnegie Mellon's softball team is in their inaugural campaign.

The series is scheduled to open with a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5th. The two teams are slated to wrap-up play on Saturday, April 6th with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. As always, the schedule is subject to change due to weather. The UAA Champion is determined based on winning percentage among teams with at least 10 UAA games played.

CWRU Spartans
The Spartans will begin their second UAA home weekend with an overall record of 12-6 and 1-1 in the conference, after splitting a pair of games against New York University on Friday. The Spartans and Violets were unable to conclude their four-game series due to inclement weather in Cleveland this past weekend. The team has hit .356 this season and averaged 6.7 runs per game this season, while the pitching staff has a team ERA of 2.78 with an opponent's batting average of .266.

Case Western Reserve is under the leadership of Head Coach Josie Henry, who is in her ninth season with the team, and has a career record 217-133. Henry is assisted by Andrea Nagy, Ashley Parello, Katelyn Gibson and Hannah Mehrle.

Carnegie Mellon Tartans
The Tartans will be playing their second UAA road series of the season this weekend, as they currently have an overall record of 5-11 and 0-4 in the conference. Carnegie Mellon has hit .288 this year and averaged 4.6 runs per game, while the pitching staff has a 4.59 ERA with a .291 opponents' batting average.

The Tartans are led by Head Coach Monica Harrison, who is in her first season with the program. She is assisted by Beth Krysiak.

Series History
This will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

Spartan Notes
The Spartans are currently 1-1 in UAA games this season, and 4-2 in games at Mather Park…Junior Nicole Carty is first on the squad with a .483 batting average (28-for-58) and leads the team with eight multiple hit games this year…Sophomore Dusstyn Reynolds has a team-best six multiple RBI games and ranks first on the team with 19 RBI's…Freshman Liv Thomas ranks first on the team with four home runs, while sophomore Arisa Cleaveland currently has the longest hit streak of a Spartan so far this season with an 11-game hitting streak…The Spartans have hit .333 (60-for-180) with runners in scoring position this season, and .640 (32-for-50) with a runner on third and less than two outs.
