Softball Ready to Open UAA Play Against NYU

The Case Western Reserve University softball team will begin conference play at home this weekend, when the team welcomes New York University to Mather Park for a four-game series. The series is slated to begin with a doubleheader at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 29th. On Saturday, March 30th, the teams will wrap-up the series with a doubleheader slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.

CWRU Spartans
The Spartans will begin the weekend with an overall record of 11-5, following a sweep of a doubleheader over John Carroll University on Tuesday. The team has hit .361 this season and averaged 7.1 runs per game this season, while the pitching staff has a team ERA of 2.90 with an opponent's batting average of .269.

Case Western Reserve is under the leadership of Head Coach Josie Henry, who is in her ninth season with the team, and has a career record of 216-132. Henry is assisted by Andrea Nagy, Ashley Parello, Katelyn Gibson and Hannah Mehrle.

NYU Violets
The Violets have opened their 2019 campaign with an overall record of 10-4, following a split with the Stevens Institute of Technology on Wednesday. This will be the first conference series for NYU this season. The Violets have hit .307 this year and averaged 5.9 runs per game, while the pitching staff has a 3.12 ERA with a .291 opponents' batting average.

NYU is led by Head Coach Now-Allah James, who is in his fifth season with the Violets. He is assisted by Ophir Sadeh and Herb Melendez.

Series History
This will be the third year that CWRU and NYU will play on a campus site during the Coach Henry era, and the second that the two teams will play in Cleveland.

Last year, the Spartans won three of the four games against NYU at Bahoshy Field in Bronx, New York. After dropping the first game of the series, CWRU came back to win the next three games to clinch the series victory.

The Spartans are currently 3-1 in home games this season…Junior Nicole Carty is first on the squad with a .510 batting average (26-for-51) and leads the team with eight multiple hit games this year…Sophomore Dusstyn Reynolds has a team-best six multiple RBI games…Freshman Liv Thomas ranks first on the team with four home runs and currently has the longest hit streak of a Spartan so far this season with an eight-game hitting streak…The Spartans have hit .346 (56-for-162) with runners in scoring position this season, and .681 (32-for-47) with a runner on third and less than two outs.
