Case Western Reserve University junior first baseman Nicole Carty was named the University Athletic Association Hitter of the Week, after helping the Spartans post a 5-1 record during this past week of games.
Carty batted .682 (15-for-22) and scored 10 runs, while also hitting two home runs and driving in six RBI's. She also led the squad with five doubles throughout the week. In Sunday's doubleheader against the University of Mount Union, Carty went a perfect six-for-six on the day with five runs scored, two RBI's and one home run. In the Spartans' 9-1 win over Mount Union in the second game of the day, Carty went four-for-four with three runs scored and a two-run home run.
For the season, Carty leads the team with a .512 batting average (22-for-43). She ranks first on the team in hits (22) and runs scored (14). In addition, Carty currently ranks fourth among all University Athletic Association players in batting average. Case Western Reserve now stands at 9-5 overall in 2018.
This was Carty's first career UAA Hitter of the Week honor.
The Spartans return to action today, as the team travels to University Heights, Ohio to face John Carroll University for a doubleheader. The first pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
