The Case Western Reserve University softball team will continue competition in the 2019 season as the team is set to travel to Tucson, Arizona to play eight games in five days from March 11th – 15th at the Tucson Invitational in Tucson, Arizona.

The Spartans opened the 2019 season this past weekend, as they dropped two games at the Pio Classic in Lexington, Kentucky. Sophomores Arisa Cleaveland, Sarah Miller and Dusstyn Reynolds each recorded a pair of hits throughout the two games, including a pair of doubles from Miller. Senior Nicole Doyle added a hit and stolen base over the weekend as well.
Case Western Reserve is guided by Head Coach Josie Henry, who is in her ninth season with the program. Henry is assisted by Andrea Nagy, Ashley Parello, Katelyn Gibson and Hannah Mehrle.
Central College will begin their season on Monday at the Tucson Invitational, as they open up against Saint Mary's (Ind.). The Dutch finished the 2018 season with a 29-12 record, and made a record 29th trip to the NCAA Tournament. They finished second in the St. Paul, Minnesota Regional.
Central is led by George Wares is in his 35th season. He is assisted by Alicia O'Brien, Keith Jones, Marcy Roff, Gary Grimes and John Edwards.
Millikin Big Blue
The Big Blue will begin their season on Friday at the Tucson Invitational, as they open up against Baldwin Wallace University and Brevard College. Millikin returns 14 letter winners and six players who played starting roles on a team that posted 22 wins last season.
The Big Blue are under the leadership of co-head coaches Whitney Sowers and Katie Tenboer. They are assisted by Martin Stupek.
The Rams will also begin their season on Friday at the Tucson Invitational, as they open up against Baldwin Wallace and North Central University. Cornell returns many key pieces from last year's NCAA regional qualifier that won the Midwest Conference Tournament and totaled 27 victories.
The Rams are led by Jackie Sernek in her second season. She is assisted by Paige Telecky and Steve Maddocks.
Dickinson Red Devils
Dickinson will open their 2019 season at the Tucson Invitational after closing the 2018 season with a 17-17 mark. The Red Devils are led by sophomore Brigitte Gutpelet, who recorded 37 hits and scored 23 runs during the 2018 season. Senior Killian Kueny will be the leader on the mound after posting a 2.88 ERA and 44 strikeouts last season.
Dickinson is under the leadership of Matt Richwine who is in his 19th season with the program. He is assisted by Doug Baker and Evie Rentzel.
George Fox Bruins
The Bruins have opened the 2019 season with a record of 0-5 after dropping three games this past weekend to Whitworth College. George Fox is led by junior Allison Meyer, who leads the team with six hits. Freshman Claire Fountain has also added four hits in eight at-bats on the season.
The Bruins are led by Jessica Hollen in her 11th season. She is assisted by John Hollen, Jim Bray, Jennifer Campbell, Kayla Anderson and Makinna Akers.
St. Mary's Belles
St. Mary's has begun their 2019 season with a 0-2 record. They are scheduled to begin play at the Tucson Invitational on Sunday against Dickinson. Junior Kelsey Keilman has led the Belles so far this season, tallying three hits in six at-bats, while also driving in two runs.
St. Mary's is under the leadership of Kelli Zache Martin in her sixth season with the program. She is assisted by Kendra Zache, Deb Zache, Cassie Young and Jamie Young.
Buena Vista Beavers
The Beavers opened their 2019 season with a 5-3 record. Buena Vista is led by freshman Kayden Archibeque, who leads the team with nine hits and eight runs scored. Setting the pitching pace for Buena Vista is freshman Ashtyn Miller who leads the team with 13 strikeouts in 15.0 innings pitched.
The Beavers are led by Mandie Berneking in her fifth season. She is assisted by Katie Yoder and Lou Rizzuti.
The University of Wisconsin-Platteville will begin their 2019 season against the Spartans on Friday, March 15th. The Pioneers posted their best record in the last 25 years during the 2018 campaign, as they ended the season with a 21-15 record.
UW-Platteville is under the leadership of Andie Varsho who is in her third season with the program. She is assisted by Roger Schliewe.
CWRU and Buena Vista last met during the 2018 spring trip to Tucson, as the Spartans earned a 4-3 victory over the Beavers…Sophomore Dusstyn Reynolds collected a two-run double in the game, while junior Ilissa Hamilton earned the win on the mound…The Spartans and the Belles met last season during the regional round of the NCAA Division III Championships, as CWRU earned a 6-2 victory…Senior Nicole Doyle went two-for-four at the plate with one run scored and one run batted in, while Hamilton went the distance on the mound and earned the win…The CWRU softball team will return home after spring break and welcome Baldwin Wallace University to Mather Park on Wednesday, March 20th for a doubleheader.
