Case Western Reserve University senior pitcher Katie Dzierwa was named the University Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for Softball, while freshman catcher Dusstyn Reynolds was named the UAA Hitter of the Week, after their performances at the 2018 NCAA Division III Softball Championships in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma this past week.
Dzierwa allowed two earned runs in six innings pitched, while striking out two batters during the Championships this past week. During the game against 16th-ranked Luther College on Saturday, Dzierwa pitched in relief and only allowed one run on three hits in a little over four innings pitched. For the season, Dzierwa has a 1-0 record, including one save. She has totaled 20.2 innings pitched, allowing three earned runs on 23 hits and striking out 11 batters. This was the second career UAA Athlete of the Week honor for Dzierwa.
Reynolds batted .500 (3-for-6) with two walks, two runs scored, one double and one run batted in. During the Spartans' 2-1 win over 14th-ranked Rowan University on Friday, Reynolds went one-for-one with a double and a run scored, while also drawing a walk. For the season, Reynolds hit .293 (36-for-123) with seven doubles, two triples, 16 runs scored and 22 RBI's. This was Reynold's first career UAA Hitter of the Week honor.
Case Western Reserve concluded their historic 2018 campaign with the most wins in program history (38) and the most postseason wins program history. In addition, the 2018 Spartans had the highest national finish for any team in CWRU athletics history.
