Case Western Reserve University sophomore pitcher Ilissa Hamilton was named the University Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for Softball, while senior outfielder Katie Wede was named the UAA Hitter of the Week, after helping the Spartans win the NCAA Division III Super Regional in Holland, Michigan this past weekend.
Hamilton went 2-1 on the mound, allowing six earned runs in 17 innings pitched, while striking out nine batters. She was tabbed as the Super Regional Most Outstanding Pitcher for her efforts. During the Spartans' decisive 4-1 victory over 17th-ranked Hope College on Saturday, Hamilton allowed one run on six hits during her seven innings pitched, and struck out two batters.
For the season, Hamilton has a 20-6 overall record, including 18 complete games. She has totaled 170.0 innings pitched, allowing 60 earned runs on 135 hits. This was Hamilton's fifth career UAA Pitcher of the Week honor.
Wede batted .400 (4-for-10) with two runs scored and two stolen bases during the three games. She was named the Most Outstanding Player for her efforts.
For the season, Wede is batting .323 (51-for-158) with four doubles, 15 RBI's and 40 runs scored. She has already broken her previous school record for stolen bases in a season and now has 26 on the campaign. This was Wede's second career UAA Hitter of the Week honor.
Case Western Reserve will now travel to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for the 2018 NCAA Division III Softball Championships that will be held from May 24th through the 29th. The Spartans will begin play on Thursday, May 24th at 5:00 p.m. ET against the third-ranked University of Texas at Tyler.
