CWRU Softball to Wrap-Up Season at Chicago this Weekend

The Case Western Reserve University softball team will wrap-up its 2018 regular-season this weekend, when the team travels to Chicago, Illinois to face the University of Chicago for a four-game series from Saturday, April 28th through Sunday, April 29th.

The series is scheduled to open with a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, April 28th. The two teams are slated to wrap-up play on Sunday, April 29th with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 p.m. ET.

Case Western Reserve












Washington (Mo.)



The UAA Champion is determined based on winning percentage among teams with at least 10 UAA games played.  Chicago, which does not play a full UAA schedule, is not eligible for the UAA Title this season, and games against Chicago do not count as UAA games.

CWRU Spartans
The Spartans will begin the weekend with a record of 27-8, following a sweep of a doubleheader over John Carroll University on Wednesday. The team has hit .336 this season and averaged 6.4 runs per game this season, while the pitching staff has a team ERA of 2.48 with an opponent's batting average of .250.

Case Western Reserve is under the leadership of Head Coach Josie Henry, who is in her eighth season with the team, and has a career record of 194-123. Henry is assisted by Shannel Blackshear, Ashley Parello, Hannah Mehrle, Andrea Nagy, Annie Wennerberg and Katelyn Gibson.

Chicago Maroons
The Maroons are 15-11 overall for the season, following a split at Roosevelt University on Tuesday. They are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Wheaton College on Thursday and then another doubleheader at Kalamazoo College on Friday, before hosting the Spartans over the weekend. Chicago has hit .289 this year and averaged 5.4 runs per game, while the pitching staff has a 4.05 ERA with a .298 opponents' batting average.

The Maroons are led by Head Coach Ruth Kmak, who is in her 19th season with the program. She is assisted by Alyssa Davis, Kelly Ostler and Alex Chiodo.

Last year, the two schools played a four-game series in Cleveland, with Chicago winning all four games.

Spartan Notes
The Spartans are currently 8-6 on the road this season, after sweeping Mount Union on Monday during their last road contest…Senior Katie Wede became the program's all-time stolen bases leader after she stole two bases during the Spartans' sweep over John Carroll on Wednesday…Wede now has 17 stolen bases for the season and 67 in her career, as she passed former Spartan Molly O'Brien for the most stolen bases in the program's history…Regardless of this weekend's outcomes, the Spartans have clinched their seventh-consecutive winning season…The Spartans are 17-2 in non-conference games this season.
