Case Western Reserve University sophomore pitcher Ilissa Hamilton was named the University Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for Softball, while senior second baseman Maren Waldner was named the UAA Hitter of the Week, after helping the Spartans to three wins over the Washington University (Mo.) Bears this past weekend.
Waldner batted .538 (7-for-13) and scored three runs, while also hitting one home run and driving in five RBI's. In the Spartans' 11-3 win over WashU on Saturday, Waldner led the team with a three-for-four performance, including a two-run homer that secured the run-rule shortened victory over the Bears.
For the season, Waldner leads the team with a .527 batting average (59-for-112), and has scored 32 runs, hit two home runs and driven in 25 RBI's. Waldner currently leads the University Athletic Association in batting average and ranks third in runs batted in. This was Waldner's second career UAA Hitter of the Week honor.
Hamilton went 2-0 on the mound, allowing four earned runs in 13.0 innings pitched, while striking out 21 batters. At the plate, she went two-for-nine with one RBI and one run scored. During the Spartans' 11-3 victory over the Bears on Saturday, Hamilton pitched six innings and allowed three runs on eight hits, while striking out a career-high 11 batters.
For the season, Hamilton has a 10-4 overall record, including 11 complete games. She has totaled 97.0 innings pitched, allowing 48 earned runs on 89 hits. She currently leads the team with 104 strikeouts and ranks second in the University Athletic Association. This was Hamilton's third career UAA Pitcher of the Week honor.
Case Western Reserve will be in action today, as they face the University of Mount Union for a doubleheader in Alliance, Ohio. The first game of the doubleheader starts at 3:30 p.m.
