Case Western Reserve University freshman Sidney Brannam was named the University Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for Softball, after helping the Spartans to three wins last weekend.
Brannam went 2-0 on the mound, allowing only one earned run in 13.0 innings pitched, while striking out five batters. During the Spartans' 6-0 win on Saturday, she pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing zero runs on nine hits and struck out four batters.
For the season, Brannam has a 10-3 overall record, including seven complete games. She has totaled 70.2 innings pitched, allowing 20 earned runs on 73 hits for a team-best 1.98 ERA. She currently ranks second in the UAA in wins and third in earned run average. This was the second career UAA Athlete of the Week honor for Brannam.
The Spartans will look to extend their winning streak this weekend, when the team welcomes UAA rival Washington University (Mo.) to Mather Park for a four-game series on Friday and Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader on Friday is slated to start at 2:00 p.m.
