The Case Western Reserve University softball team will begin their third week of conference play on the road this weekend, when the team travels to New York, New York for a four-game series with the New York University Violets.
The Spartans will begin the four-game series with a doubleheader starting at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 13th. The series will continue on Saturday, April 14th with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. As always, the schedule is subject to change due to weather, and fans are encouraged to check back at athletics.case.edu for any schedule updates.

The Spartans will begin the weekend with a record of 17-6 and 4-4 in the conference, following a sweep of a four-game series at Brandeis University this past weekend. The team has hit .336 this season and averaged 6.6 runs per game this season, while the pitching staff has a team ERA of 2.78 with an opponent's batting average of .265.
Case Western Reserve is under the leadership of Head Coach Josie Henry, who is in her eighth season with the team, and has a career record of 184-121. Henry is assisted by Shannel Blackshear, Ashley Parello, Hannah Mehrle, Andrea Nagy, Annie Wennerberg and Katelyn Gibson.
The Violets have opened their 2018 campaign with an overall record of 10-8, they will Manhattanville College on Wednesday before hosting the Spartans this weekend. This will be the first conference series for NYU this season. The Violets have hit .299 this year and averaged 6.1 runs per game, while the pitching staff has a 3.64 ERA with a .281 opponents' batting average.
NYU is led by Head Coach Now-Allah James, who is in his fourth season with the Violets. He is assisted by Grace Edelson, Alyssa See and Victoria Goldbach.
This will be the second year that CWRU and NYU will play on a campus site during the Coach Henry era, and the first that two teams will play in New York.
Last year, the Spartans won three of the four games against NYU at Mather Park in Cleveland, Ohio. After dropping the first game of the series, CWRU came back to win the next three games to clinch the series victory.
The Spartans are currently 3-5 in road games this season…Senior Maren Waldner is first on the squad with a .537 batting average (44-for-82) and leads the team with 15 multiple hit games this year…Senior Grace Tritchler has a team-best seven multiple RBI games…Waldner also has the longest hit streak of a Spartan so far this season with a 20-game hitting streak…Senior Katie Wede leads the team with seven stolen bases this season, and now has 57 for her career which is only nine shy of setting the new program record for stolen bases in a career…The Spartans have hit .366 (83-for-227) with runners in scoring position this season, and .686 (24-for-35) with a runner on third and less than two outs.
