CWRU Softball Ready to Open UAA Play at Emory

The Case Western Reserve University softball team will begin conference play on the road this weekend, when the team travels to Atlanta, Georgia to take on Emory University at Cooper Field for a four-game series.

The Spartans will begin the four-game series with a doubleheader starting at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 30th. The series will continue on Saturday, March 31st with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. As always, the schedule is subject to change due to weather, and fans are encouraged to check back at athletics.case.edu for any schedule updates.

CWRU Spartans
The Spartans will enter the weekend with an overall record of 13-2, following a win over Baldwin Wallace University on Tuesday. The team has hit .360 this season and averaged 7.9 runs per game this season, while the pitching staff has a team ERA of 2.88 with an opponent's batting average of .254.

Case Western Reserve is under the leadership of Head Coach Josie Henry, who is now in her eighth season with the team, and has a career record of 180-117. Henry is assisted by Shannel Blackshear, Ashley Parello, Hannah Mehrle, Andrea Nagy, Annie Wennerberg and Katelyn Gibson.

Emory Eagles
The Eagles will begin the weekend with an overall record of 9-7, following a sweep of over Wesleyan College (Ga.) last Thursday. Emory has hit .259 this year and averaged 3.3 runs per game, while the pitching staff has a 2.52 ERA with a .217 opponents' batting average.

Emory is led by Head Coach Penny Siqueiros, who is in her 20th season with the Eagles. She is assisted by Louie Berndt, Amanda Marshall and Renee Boulware.

Series History
This will be the second year that CWRU and Emory will play on a campus site during the Coach Henry era, and the first that the two teams will play on Cooper Field in Atlanta.

Last year, the Spartans split a four-game series against Emory at Mather Park in Cleveland, Ohio. CWRU won the first game, 9-8 in eight innings, after a game-winning RBI single from senior Maren Waldner. After dropping the next two games against the Eagles, the Spartans won the last game by a score of 5-4 to even the season series at 2-2.

The Spartans are currently 3-1 in road games this season, after earning an 11-7 win over Baldwin Wallace on Tuesday…Senior Maren Waldner leads the team with a .561 batting average (32-for-57)…Senior Grace Tritchler leads the squad with four home runs and 20 runs batted in…Tritchler is now only 11 home runs shy of the program record for home runs in a career and only 21 RBI's shy of the program record for career runs batted in…Waldner leads the team with 12 multiple hit games this year, while Tritchler has a team-best six multiple RBI games…Tritchler has also hit safely in every game so far this season… The Spartans have hit .375 (69-for-194) with runners in scoring position this season, and .719 (23-for-32) with a runner and less than two outs.
