Case Western Reserve University sophomore Ilissa Hamilton was named the University Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for Softball, while senior Grace Tritchler was named the UAA Hitter of the Week, after helping the Spartans to four wins in as many games last weekend.
Tritchler batted .500 (8-for-16) during the Spartans season-opening weekend and the led squad with two home runs and eight runs batted in. During the team's 9-2 win over Marietta on Saturday, Tritchler led the Spartans with a two-for-four performance, including two home runs and two runs batted in. She followed that with a three-for-four performance during the Spartans 9-1 win over Susquehanna, including a game-high three runs batted in. Tritchler also added another two RBI's on Sunday during the Spartans 11-2 win over Susquehanna.
For her career, Tritchler ranks fourth in program history with 21 home runs. This was her second career UAA Hitter of the Week honor.
Hamilton went 2-0 during this past weekend with 15 strikeouts in 12.0 innings and a 3.00 earned run average. She led the Spartans to a 9-1 win over Susquehanna on Saturday, allowing only one run on three hits and a walk, while striking out six batters. Hamilton followed that outing with a nine strikeout performance to earn the win during the Spartans' 5-3 victory over Emory & Henry on Sunday. At the plate, Hamilton batted .231 (3-for-13) with one double and one run batted in.
This was Hamilton's first career UAA Pitcher of the Week honor.
The Spartans will return to action on Monday, March 12th, when the team opens up an eight-game road trip to Tucson, Arizona. The team will begin play with a pair of games at the Tucson Invitational against Wisconsin-La Crosse and the Rochester Institute of Technology.
