The Case Western Reserve University softball team will get its 2018 season started this weekend, when the Spartans travel to Emory, Virginia to play in the Emory & Henry Tournament, hosted by Emory & Henry College, from Saturday, March 3rd to Sunday, March 4th.
The Spartans are scheduled to play Marietta College on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a 3:30 p.m. game against Susquehanna University. On Sunday, CWRU will play host Emory & Henry College at 11:00 a.m. followed by a 1:00 p.m. matchup against Susquehanna.

The Spartans will open their 2018 season on Saturday, after following a 20-17 finish to the 2017 campaign. CWRU is slated to return nine players from last year's team, seven of which have significant starting experience.
The Spartans are guided by Head Coach Josie Henry, who is starting her eighth season with the program. She has tallied a career record of 167-115 for a .592 winning percentage, while helping lead the team to a UAA Championship in 2014. Henry is assisted by Shannel Blackshear, Ashley Parello, Hannah Mehrle, Andrea Nagy, Annie Wennerberg and Katelyn Gibson.
The Pioneers are also set to open their season on Saturday against the Spartans. Marietta finished the 2017 season with a 14-24 record, while batting .259 as a team with a 3.35 ERA.
The Pioneers are under the leadership of Jeanne Arbuckle who is in her 39th season with the program. She is assisted by Brianna Finck and Jim Fox.
Susquehanna River Hawks
Susquehanna will open their season on Saturday against Emory & Henry. The River Hawks finished the 2017 season with a 29-16 record, while batting .293 as a team with a 2.81 ERA. Susquehanna returns senior Emilie Boman who started all 45 games last year, and led the squad in average (.379), hits (53) and runs batted in (33).
The River Hawks are led by Brad Posner in his third season. He is assisted by Caitlynn Dykes.
Emory & Henry Wasps
The Wasps have opened their season with a record of 5-1 after splitting a doubleheader against Meredith College on Saturday. Senior first baseman Caley Hodge leads the team with a .444 batting average, one home run and nine runs batted in.
Emory & Henry is under the leadership of Tommy Forrester who is in his fifth season with the program. He is assisted by Jenae Morrissey and Jason Delp.
This weekend's games will be the first ever between both the Spartans and the Susquehanna River Hawks.
CWRU played both Emory & Henry and Marietta back in 2016 at the Emory & Henry Tournament. The Spartans won two games from each of the teams to complete the perfect 4-0 weekend.
During 2017, the Spartans recorded a 20-17 record, which included winning three of their last four games to secure its sixth-consecutive winning season…After earning All-UAA First Team honors, the Spartans return senior Grace Tritchler and junior Nicole Doyle this season…Last season, CWRU was defeated by Western Connecticut State (3-2) in their season-opener…Senior Katie Wede also returns this season after setting the school's single-season record with 23 stolen bases last season…The Spartans hit .289 as a team and slugged 17 home runs last year…For her career, Grace Tritchler ranks fourth in school history with 19 home runs and seventh with 96 runs batted in.
