Case Western Reserve University junior Katie Dzierwa was named the University Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for Softball, after helping the Spartans to three wins last week.
Dzierwa went 2-0 during last week's games, including her first career no-hitter against Heidelberg University on Sunday. She allowed one earned run in 10 innings pitched, while striking out four batters. During the Spartans' 9-0 win against Heidelberg on Sunday, she pitched six scoreless innings, allowing zero hits and only one walk, while striking out one batter.
For the season, Dzierwa has a 7-7 overall record, including five complete games. She had totaled 82.2 innings pitched, allowing 35 earned runs on 100 hits, while striking out 31 batters. She leads the team with a 2.96 earned run average. This was the first career UAA Athlete of the Week honor for Dzierwa.
Case Western Reserve completed a strong finish to the 2017 campaign. CWRU won three of its last four contests to finish above .500 for the sixth consecutive season.
