The Case Western Reserve University softball team returns home this week to host Thiel College for a doubleheader at Mather Park on Tuesday, April 4th, staring at 3:30 p.m.

The Spartans will enter the week with an overall record of 9-8, following a 4-2 loss against Brandeis University on Friday. The team has hit .305 this season and averaged 4.8 runs per game this season, while the pitching staff has a team ERA of 3.57 with an opponents' batting average of .279.
Case Western Reserve is under the leadership of Head Coach Josie Henry, who is now in her seventh season with the team, and has a career record of 156-106. Henry is assisted by Shannel Blackshear and Ashley Parello.
The Tomcats opened their season on March 5th, going 6-10 during their first 16 games of the campaign. Thiel will be looking to get back on track after losing four of their last six games. The Tomcats have hit .297 this year and averaged 4.1 runs per game, while the pitching staff has a 4.20 ERA with a .318 opponents' batting average.
Thiel is led by Head Coach Lori Schimmel, who is in her second season with the Tomcats. She is assisted by Danielle Massengill.
Last year, the Spartans and Tomcats originally scheduled doubleheader was cancelled due to cold temperatures. The last time these two schools faced each other was in 2015 when CWRU swept a doubleheader at Thiel, winning 9-1 in five innings and 15-7 in six innings. Senior Annie Wennerberg and junior Grace Tritchler each hit home runs during the doubleheader.
The Spartans have gone 51-15 in home games at Mather Park over the last five season, good for a .777 winning percentage…The Spartans are currently 4-2 at home this season, after going 2-2 against Emory University during their last home series…Sophomore shortstop Nicole Doyle leads the team with a .434 batting average (23-for-53)…Junior infielder Maren Waldner is first on the squad with 24 hits and leads the team with nine multiple hit games this year…Tritchler and freshman Nicole Carty have a team-best three multiple RBI games…Junior Katie Wede has the longest hit streak for a Spartan so far this season with an eight-game hitting streak…CWRU has hit .305 (57-for-187) with runners in scoring position this season, and .423 (33-for-78) against left-handed pitchers.
