The Case Western Reserve University softball team will play its home-opener this week, welcoming Kenyon College to Mather Park for a doubleheader starting at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21st.

The Spartans will begin the week with an overall record of 5-5, following a 4-2 mark during the recent spring break trip in Kissimmee, Florida. The team has hit .300 this season and averaged 4.9 runs per game this season, while the pitching staff has a team ERA of 2.33 with an opponents' batting average of .247.
Case Western Reserve is under the leadership of Head Coach Josie Henry, who is now in her seventh season with the team, and has a career record of 152-103. Henry is assisted by Shannel Blackshear and Ashley Parello.
The Ladies opened their season on February 25th, going 8-10 during their first 18 games of the campaign. Kenyon will be looking to end a three-game losing streak when the team comes to Cleveland on Tuesday. The Ladies have hit .356 this year and averaged 6.83 runs per game, while the pitching staff has a 6.44 ERA with a .341 opponents' batting average.
Kenyon is led by Head Coach Erin O'Neill, who is in her sixth season with the Ladies. She is assisted by Jennifer Dowsey.
Last year, the Spartans played a doubleheader at Kenyon, winning 10-0 in five innings and 10-2 in six innings. Senior Annie Wennerberg started and earned the win in each of the two games, holding Kenyon to just two unearned runs on seven hits and a walk with eight strikeouts in nine innings. Junior Katie Wede paced the team at the plate, going four-for-seven over the two games with five runs scored and four runs batted in.
The Spartans have gone 47-13 in home games at Mather Park over the last five seasons, good for a .783 winning percentage…The team was 8-2 at home last season, winning each of their final four home contests of the season…The Spartans have won their last five home opening games, including a 7-5 win over Hiram last season…Junior infielder Maren Waldner leads the team with six multiple-hit games this year, has hit safely in her last six games, and leads the team with a .469 batting average (15-for 32)…Junior Katie Wede and freshman Nicole Carty each have a team-best two multiple RBI games...Junior Grace Tritchler leads the team with two home runs this season, and now has 15 for her career…The Spartans have hit .314 (33-for-105) with runners in scoring position this season, and .429 (15-for-35) against left-handed pitchers.
