After nearly two weeks off from action, the Case Western Reserve University softball team has three doubleheaders scheduled for the upcoming week, facing John Carroll University at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 14th at Mather Park, playing at Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday, April 16th in Delaware, Ohio starting at 1:00 p.m., and returning home on Sunday, April 17th, as the team will celebrate 'Senior Day' against Trine University at 2:00 p.m.

Prior to the start of the games on Sunday, the Spartans will honor the team's four graduating senior players – catcher Meghann McMahon, outfielder Kristen Klemmer, pitcher Rebecca Molnar and outfielder Abbey Filliez. Together, the four seniors have helped Case Western Reserve go 95-55 over the last four seasons, good for a .633 winning percentage. Including in that mark was a 32-11 campaign in 2015, setting the program record for victories in a year. Fans unable to attend the game can watch the 'Senior Day' ceremony on Sunday's video webcast.
The Spartans have won four-straight games, including a sweep of a home doubleheader in their last outing on Saturday, April 2nd against Wooster. With the wins, the team has improved to 14-16 overall, including a perfect 4-0 mark in home games, 6-6 in road contests and a 4-10 mark in neutral-site games. The Spartans are batting .313 as a team this season and scoring 5.3 runs per game this season, while the pitching staff has recorded a 3.68 earned run average with a .287 opponents' batting average.
The Spartans are under the leadership of Head Coach Josie Henry, who is now in her sixth season with the team, and has a career record of 140-95, good for a .596 winning percentage. Henry is assisted by Ashley Parello, Molly O'Brien and Natalie DeMatteis.
John Carroll Blue Streaks
The Blue Streaks stand at 10-10 on the season including a 2-4 road record. The team has won two-straight games and three of its last four, and will be in Alliance, Ohio on Wednesday for a doubleheader against Mount Union, before facing the Spartans on Thursday. John Carroll is batting .249 this season with 3.9 runs scored per game, with the pitching staff notching a 2.93 team ERA and holding opponents to a .262 batting average.
John Carroll is led by Head Coach Nicole Loudin, who is 51-45 during her three seasons with the Blue Streaks, and 77-84 overall during her five-year head coaching career. She is assisted by Bruce Anderson.
The two teams last met during the 2015 campaign, splitting a doubleheader in University Heights. After losing the first game 5-2, the Spartans bounced back with a 6-3 win in the late contest.
Ohio Wesleyan Battling Bishops
Ohio Wesleyan is 7-15 on the season, including a 2-2 ledger in home contests. The Battling Bishops have lost four of their last five games, but split a doubleheader on the road against Wooster in their last outing. The team has a .299 batting average and is scoring 4.2 runs per game this year, while the pitching staff has tallied a 6.78 team ERA with a .359 opponents' batting average.
Ohio Wesleyan is coached by Cassie Cunningham, who is in her 10th season with the team and has gone 176-180-2 during her career. She is assisted by Tori Brown and Shelley Johnson.
The Spartans won both games of a doubleheader against Ohio Wesleyan last season, claiming a 10-2 win in the first game and a 6-5 victory in the second contest. CWRU has taken three of the last four games against Ohio Wesleyan overall.
Trine is 17-8 overall on the season, including an 0-1 road mark and a 9-5 neutral-site record. The Thunder have won five of their last six games, including a doubleheader sweep of Kalamazoo on Monday. The team will play a doubleheader at Calvin on Wednesday, prior to facing the Spartans on Sunday. Trine is hitting .346 as a team and scoring 5.6 runs per game, while the pitching staff has a 2.29 earned run average and a .234 opponents' batting average.
The Thunder are under the leadership of Head Coach Donnie Danklefsen, who has a career 361-129 record during his 12 years with the team. He is assisted by Brittney Harvey and Dennis Smith.
Last season, the Spartans were swept in a doubleheader at Trine, falling 8-4 in the first game and 15-6 in the second.
Case Western Reserve sophomore Katie Wede has 18 stolen bases on 19 attempts this season, and is just four stolen bases shy of tying the school's single-season record… Her 23 career stolen bases are the ninth-most ever by a Spartan, and one shy of tying Makenzie Lein (2011-14), Julie Roden (1996-99) and Carla Kinyon (1998-01) for sixth in school history… Wede's 0.57 stolen bases per game are the 76th-most among DIII players this year… Junior Annie Wennerberg has driven in 21 runs this season, and has 95 career RBIs, the sixth-most in the program's history and three shy of Makenzie Lein (2011-14) for the fifth most in school history… Wennerberg is also ranked 18th among DIII players with 104 strikeouts and 74th with nine wins… CWRU is 40th in Division III with three shutouts this season… Sophomore Grace Tritchler is 48th among DIII hitters with six home runs and 88th with 27 RBIs… The Spartans are 10-1 when leading after four inning this season, and 12-0 when leading after six innings.
