Case Western Reserve University sophomore center fielder Katie Wede was named the University Athletic Association Hitter of the Week, after helping to lead the Spartans to four wins in as many games last week.
Wede batted a team-best .692 (nine-for-13) and led the team with seven runs scored and six stolen bases on as many attempts, while adding a double, a home run and five runs batted in. During a 7-5 win in the first game of a doubleheader against Hiram College on Tuesday, she went two-for-four with a run scored, an RBI and two stolen bases, and then added a two-for-three performance in the second game, an 8-1 CWRU victory, with a double, two runs scored, two RBIs and a pair of stolen bases.
In the first game of a Saturday doubleheader against Wooster, a 10-2 Spartans' victory, Wede went three-for-three with two runs scored and two stolen bases. She rounded out her week with a two-for-three performance in a 4-2 win over the Fighting Scots in the second game, scoring a pair of runs and hitting a solo home run, her first of the season.
Wede has started all 30 games for the Spartans this season, and is batting .320, while leading the team with 26 runs scored and 18 stolen bases. This was the first career UAA Athlete of the Week honor for Wede, who was an All-UAA First Team selection during her freshman season in 2015.
Case Western Reserve has won four-straight games to improve to 14-16 for the season. The Spartans are scheduled to return to action this weekend, when the team plays host to New York University and the University of Chicago on Saturday and Sunday.
