The Case Western Reserve University softball team will travel to Alliance, Ohio for a doubleheader against the University of Mount Union on Wednesday, March 23rd, starting at 3:00 p.m.

The Spartans will be looking to keep their momentum going, following a pair of wins against Ohio Northern over the weekend that saw the team's record rise to 9-13 for the year, including a 5-3 record in road contests. Case Western Reserve is batting .305 as a team and averaging 4.9 runs per game this season, while the pitching staff has a 3.52 ERA with a .277 opponents' batting average.
The Spartans are under the leadership of Head Coach Josie Henry, who is now in her sixth season with the team, and has a career record of 135-92. Henry is assisted by Ashley Parello, Molly O'Brien and Natalie DeMatteis.
Mount Union Raiders
Mount Union saw a six-game winning streak come to an end on Sunday, after the team split a home doubleheader against Ohio Wesleyan University. The Raiders are 11-7 overall on the year, including a 1-1 mark in home games. The team has hit .337 this season and is averaging 6.1 runs per game, while pitching to a 3.28 team ERA with a .257 opponents' average.
The Raiders are under the leadership of Interim Head Coach Meghan Kishman. She is assisted by Jill Rader.
Last season the Spartans swept a home doubleheader against Mount Union, winning 9-8 in the first game, and 10-1 in five innings in the second game. In the first game, current CWRU junior Annie Wennerberg hit a two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Spartans the lead for good, and cap off a three-for-five day with three home runs and five RBIs. Meanwhile, current sophomore Katie Dzierwa pitched 3.2 shutout innings, allowing just one hit and earning the win.
Wennerberg also hit a three-run home run in the late game last season, and drove in four runs in the game. Current senior Rebecca Molnar picked up the win in the game, allowing a run on three hits and striking out five in five innings of work.
The Spartans have won their last six meetings with the Raiders.
Annie Wennerberg was named to the All-UAA Tournament Team last week, following her performance at the 10-game conference tournament… Wennerberg tied the school record with her 28th career home run during the team's game against Brandeis on March 9th… She matched the mark previously held by former Spartan Lauren Wolz (2009-12)… She is also tied with former Spartan Carrie Mallory (1999-02) for seventh in school history with 86 career RBIs, 48 behind the program record, and four behind Ashley Parello for sixth in the record book… Sophomore second baseman Lindsey Robinson had a Spartan-best 11-game hitting streak between February 20th and March 8th… Robinson hit .390 (16-for-41) during the stretch… She has also hit safely in each of her last five games, the longest current active streak by a CWRU player… Robinson tallied five hits in the team's 10-3 win over Ohio Northern, the most in a game this season by a Spartan player… Sophomore infielders Grace Tritchler and Maren Waldner are tied for the team lead with eight multiple hit games this season… Tritchler leads all CWRU players with five multiple RBI games.
