MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Case Western Reserve University softball team concluded it's regular season by defeating Allegheny College 1-0 and 7-0 in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon while increasing their win streak to 11 games.
The one and only run of the first game came from a walk in the top of the second inning. After freshman third baseman Christine Scherer (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny Senior) singled up the middle, senior second baseman Molly O'Brien (Northbrook, Ill./Loyola) and freshman centerfielder Katie Wede (Carmel, Ind./Carmel) were walked. Senior rightfielder Ashley Parello (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) was also walked to score the only run of the game.
The Spartans scored seven unanswered runs during the second game. CWRU scored two runs in the top of the second as senior pitcher Rebecca Taylor (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) singled to right center to bring in two runners to home plate.
Adding another run in the top of the third and the top of the fourth, the Spartans took a 4-0 lead. Sophomore leftfielder Annie Wennerberg (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake) reached first on a fielder's choice scoring freshman pinch runner Lindsey Robinson (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin). Junior pinch runner Kristen Klemmer (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) scored off a single to center field from O'Brien.
The final three runs came in the top of the seventh beginning with a Wennerberg single to right field for an RBI followed by a single down the left field line by freshman first baseman Grace Tritchler (San Antonio, Texas/Winston Churchill) for two RBIs.
The CWRU softball team conludes the regular season 32-11 with a 12-2 home record.
