CLEVELAND – Winner of seven in a row and 11 out of 12, the Case Western Reserve University softball team concludes its season-long home stand with a Thursday, April 25 doubleheader versus cross-town rival Baldwin Wallace University at 3:30 p.m. at Mather Park.

Spartan Notes

Playing their best ball of the season, the Spartans (20-13) have moved to a season-high seven games above the .500 mark.

In a sweep of Hiram College last Friday, sophomore second baseman Molly O'Brien became the program's all-time career stolen bases leader when she surpassed 2011 graduate Beth Andrasik's mark of 34. O'Brien, who also homered in the twinbill, now has 36 steals in less than two full seasons as a Spartan.

On the mound, sophomore pitcher Rebecca Taylor (15-10) recorded her 15th complete game of the spring and has 25 strikeouts versus just five earned runs in her last 21 innings of work. For her career, the reigning University Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week already ranks second in school history in strikeouts (321), tied for third in shutouts (6), fourth in wins (35) and fifth in complete games (40).

Freshman third baseman Rachel Komar is batting .519 (28-for-54) with 17 runs scored, two homers and nine runs batted-in during her current 14-game hitting streak.

Yellow Jacket Notes

Representatives of the Ohio Athletic Conference, the Yellow Jackets have lost five of their last six games including a doubleheader sweep at the hands of John Carroll University by scores of 5-3 and 4-3 on Tuesday.

Offensively, BW is led by junior Tabitha Murray and her .478 batting average, good for fourth in the OAC. Murray also leads the team and ranks fifth in the OAC in homeruns (9) and RBI (33) to go along with 13 doubles, 19 walks and 24 runs scored. Additionally, junior Kaity Mullen and freshman Alison Fiorucci both have a pair of homers and 18 RBI, while junior Nikki Peskura is batting .298 with 10 RBI and is tied with Murray for team-high honors with 24 runs scored.

On the mound, Murray, who earlier this year pitched the first back-to-back perfect games in NCAA softball history, leads the staff with a 16-9 record and a 2.50 ERA. In 28 games with 20 starts, Murray has logged 157 innings of work with an OAC-best 161 Ks. Murray also ranks second in the conference with 17 complete games including both ends of the twinbill versus the Blue Streaks. Peskura could also see some innings as she has appeared in 15 games with 11 starts and 61.2 IP.
