Razanauskas Wins Inter-Region Rumble; Leads #29 Spartans to Third-Place Finish

Case Western Reserve University junior Trey Razanauskas won the varsity 8K race at the 2019 Inter-Regional Rumble in Oberlin, Ohio, leading the 29th-ranked Spartans to a third-place finish out of 39 teams on Saturday morning.

Razanauskas placed first out of 339 runners at the meet, crossing the line in a time of 24:36.7, marking the fastest 8K time of his career.  Senior David Hall was the team's second finisher, placing 21st overall with a time of 25:09.4, while first-year Jack Begley finished 30th with a time of 25:18.7.  Completing the top-five scorers, junior Yoshmar Pinal-Alfaro finished 33rd in a time of 25:22.9, and sophomore Spencer Weigand finished 41st with a time of 25:37.9.

Other finishers for the Spartans in the varsity race included first-year Robert St. Clair (54th, 25:50.3), first-year Joe Jaster (58th, 25:53.3), junior Dmytro Blundell (71st, 25:58.6), sophomore Alex Loeper (96th, 26:16.2) and junior Eric Rachita (101st, 26:18.3).

The Spartans finished with a team score of 125, finishing behind first-place Berea (75 points) and second-place Otterbein (109 points).

CWRU also finished second out of 28 teams in the open race, with sophomore Logan Singer placing third (26:12.6), senior Tim Andrews finishing fourth (26:28.4) and first-year Parker Straight placing fifth (26:28.4).

The Spartans will now turn their attention towards their championship season.  After a week from competition, the Spartans will travel to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for the 2019 University Athletic Association Championships on Saturday, November 2nd.
