The 18th-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's cross country team notched a 10th-place finish out of 40 teams, and the women recorded a seventh-place finish out of 37 teams, at the Live at Lou Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ohio on Saturday afternoon.

The CWRU men finished the 'silver' 8K race with a team score of 272 to finish 10th overall.  North Central won the race with a team score of 85, followed by Johns Hopkins in second with a score of 116, and Otterbein in third with a mark of 127.

Junior Trey Razanauskas was the team's top finisher in the race, placing 19th out of 276 runners with a time of 24:52.3.  Sophomore Spencer Weigand was 48th overall, crossing the line in a time of 25:20.2, while first-year Jack Begley placed 52nd overall with a mark of 25:25.2.  Junior Yoshmar Pinal-Alfaro was the fourth CWRU runner to cross the line, notching a time of 25:42.6 to place 70th overall, and senior David Hall was the Spartans' fifth runner, placing 83rd with a mark of 25:51.3.  Rounding out the list of competitors for the CWRU men's team on Saturday were sophomore Alex Loeper, who finished 107th with a time of 26:12.0, and first-year Joe Jaster, who was 109th overall with a time of 26:12.8.

Junior Dmytro Blundell ran in the 'blue' race earlier in the day, completing the 8K course in a time of 26:13.5 and placing 93rd out of 515 finishers.

The women's 6K 'silver' race took an odd turn, both literally and figuratively on Saturday, as a portion of the field of runners were accidently diverted in the wrong direction midway through the race.  Due to runners recording varying finishing distances, no individual results were recorded.  However, team results were tabulated based on the final split point all runners crossed at the 3.9 kilometer mark, rather than the scheduled 6K finishing distance.

The Spartans finished the meet with 227 team points to place seventh overall.  MIT was the top performing team in the race, scoring 42 points, while Oberlin was second with 111 points and St. Thomas was third with 188.  Senior Madeline Lindemann was the first Spartan to cross the finish line, followed in order by first-year Stephanie Wroblewski, junior Kiera Olson, sophomore Jana Fisher, first-year Melissa Phung, sophomore Susanna Henry and junior Grace Kemerer.

Also on Saturday, first-year Danielle Sarno competed in the 'blue' 5K race, placing 102nd out of 533 runners with a time of 19:41.6.

Both the men's and women's races on Saturday were early previews of the 2019 NCAA Championships, which are scheduled to be held at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park in November.

The Spartans will host their annual Alumni Race at the Squire Valleevue Farm next Saturday, before returning to intercollegiate competition at the Inter-Regional Rumble in Oberlin, Ohio on Saturday, October 19th.
