Cross Country to Compete at Allegheny Classic on Saturday

The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania for the Allegheny Cross Country Classic on Saturday, September 14th.  The men's four-mile race is slated for a 10:00 a.m. start on Saturday, to be followed by the women's three-mile race at 10:45 a.m.

Both races will be shorter than the typical NCAA Division III cross country race, with the men's course checking in at roughly 6.4 kilometers (compared to the usual 8K race), and women's at 4.8 kilometers (compared to 6K).

Other teams scheduled to compete at the meet, besides CWRU and host Allegheny, include Carnegie Mellon, Washington & Jefferson, Grove City, Chatham, Thiel, Gannon, Kent State – Tuscawaras, Edinboro and Muskingum.

Ten runners are scheduled to be in action for the 19th-ranked CWRU men, including graduate student Andrew Gold, juniors Daniel Grasing and Thomas Patton, sophomores Spencer Weigand, Bryden Moxley, Rahul Mikkilineni, Ben Browngardt, and Max Griesheimer, and first-years Will Dehmler and Jacob Conard.  Ten Spartans are scheduled to compete in the women's race as well, including senior Mallorie Mitchem, juniors Cara Giannuzzi, Madison Vargo and Elise Epstein, sophomores Julia Kocherzat, Maddy Nacci, and Claire Keanna, and first-years Catherine Phillips, Suki Bristol and Cassidy Hill.

At last year's Allegheny Classic, the CWRU men placed second out of 10 teams at the meet, behind a sixth-place finish from current junior Yoshmar Pinal-Alfaro to pace the team.  The CWRU women placed second out of seven teams, with current senior Madeline Lindemann finishing second overall and current junior Kiera Olson placing eighth in the field of runners.

Full results and a recap of CWRU's performances at the meet will be posted to athletics.case.edu following the completion of competition on Saturday.
