Hall Selected to Google Cloud Academic All-America Second Team

Case Western Reserve University junior David Hall was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Division III Track & Field/ Cross Country Second Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) based on his academic and athletic achievements.

It's the 10th time in that a CWRU men's cross country/ track and field member has claimed the honor, and Hall is the first from the program to be selected an Academic All-American since Sam Merriman in 2018.

Hall becomes the sixth Spartan this year to win the award, joining Dee Gose (football), Karley King (volleyball), Rocco Maue (baseball), Ilissa Hamilton (softball) and Cassandra Laios (women's track & field) and the 110th selection in the history of CWRU athletics.

Hall completed a standout season for the CWRU cross country team in 2018, earning all-region honors for the first time in his career with a 16th-place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships.  He went on to help lead the squad to a 21st-place finish at the NCAA Championships, as Hall was the second Spartan to cross the finish line at the meet, placing 87th overall.  He was also the team's top finish at the All-Ohio Championships, finishing 30th overall and sixth among Division III runners with a season-best 8K time of 25:06.2.

Academically, Hall has a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average as a mathematics major at Case Western Reserve University.  He warned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors this year and is a six-time UAA All-Academic Honoree between cross country and track.  Hall was named to the Van Horn Society at CWRU in December, recognizing the program's top-achieving scholar athletes.

This was the first Academic All-America honor of Hall's career. To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution, and be selected to an Academic All-District team.
