The Case Western Reserve University men's cross country team finished second among NCAA Division III teams and eighth among all NCAA (Division I, II & III) and NAIA squads in competition at the 2018 All-Ohio Championships in Norton, Ohio on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans, who were running a full 8K for the first time in competition this season, finished the meet with 240 total points to place eighth among 39 collegiate teams at the meet, and registered 70 points in the Division III portion of the meet to finish second among 18 DIII squads, behind only Otterbein (37 points). It marked the second-straight season that the Spartans have placed second among DIII teams at the All-Ohio Championships.
Akron won the overall team meet with a score of 90 points, edging out Ohio (93 points) and Malone (109 points).
For the first time in his career, junior David Hall was the team's top finisher at the meet. He crossed the finish line in a time of 25:06.2, good for a 30th place finish overall out of 324 total runners and sixth among the 148 Division III competitors. Hall became the third different Spartan to lead the team through three meets this season.
Sophomore Trey Razanauskas was 43rd overall and 11th among Division III runners with a time of 25:22.0, followed by freshman Spencer Weigand in 47th overall (14th DIII) with a time of 25:26.2. Rounding out the team's five scorers were senior Zach Roshon with a time of 25:30.6 (53rd overall, 16th DIII) and junior Karthik Ravichandran with a mark of 25:42.6 (67th overall, 23rd DIII).
Additional finishers for the CWRU men on Saturday included junior Andrew Green in 83rd-place (31st DIII) with a time of 22:55.1, sophomore Yoshmar Pinal-Alfaro in 85th-place (32nd DIII) with a time of 25:57.3, senior Ben Resnick in 126th-place (50th DIII) with a time of 26:33.5, and sophomore Eric Rachita in 135th-place (55th DIII) with a time of 26:40.7.
Ohio's Josh Park was the top finisher overall with a time of 24:14.9. Ian McVey of Ohio Northern placed fourth overall and was the top Division III finisher with a mark of 24:23.8.
In the men's open 8K race later in the day, senior Robert Iriye was the Spartans' top finisher, placing 16th out of 189 total runners in the event with a time of 26:24.6.
The Spartans will be off from intercollegiate competition next weekend, as the team hosts its annual Alumni Race at the Squire Valleevue Farm on Saturday, October 6th. Case Western Reserve will then travel to Oberlin, Ohio for the Inter-Regional Rumble on Saturday, October 13th.
