Case Western Reserve University sophomore Yoshmar Pinal-Alfaro notched the top finish by a Spartan on Saturday morning to help to lead the squad to a second-place finish at the Allegheny Cross Country Classic in Meadville, Pennsylvania.

Pinal-Alfaro finished sixth overall in the field of 116 finishers, completing the four-mile course in a time of 20:53.  It marked the first time in his career that he has been the team's top finisher in a race.

The rest of the Spartans' top-seven helped propel the team to second in the field by staying in a close group.  Junior Andrew Green placed 12th at the race with a time of 21:13.  Junior David Hall then led a pack of five-straight CWRU finishers, finishing 14th with a mark of 21:24.  Sophomore Trey Razanauskas was 15th with a time of 21:28, senior Zach Roshon was 16th with a time of 21:30, freshman Spencer Weigand placed 17th with a mark of 21:36, and junior Karthik Ravichandran crossed the line in a time of 21:40 to finish 18th overall.

The Spartans finished with a combined team score of 63, placing second behind Carnegie Mellon with a score of 31.  Allegheny placed third among the ten teams at the meet with a score of 97.

Washington & Jefferson's Harley Moyer won the individual title with a time of 20:30.

The Spartans will be off next weekend, as the team gears up for the 2018 All-Ohio Championships on Saturday, September 29, hosted by the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio.
