The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's cross country teams will be back on the course this weekend, when the team travels to Meadville, Pennsylvania for the Allegheny Cross Country Classic, hosted by Allegheny College, on Saturday, September 15th.
The meet, held at the Robertson Athletic Conference, will open with the women's three-mile race, slated to start at 10:00 a.m. The men's four-mile race will follow at 10:45 a.m.
The Spartans will be in action for the first time since opening the meet with first-place finishes for both the men and women at the Sudeck Sunset Classic Stampede on August 31st. The men were paced by a first-place finish for junior Andrew Green, while junior Madeline Lindemann was the top finisher among all women at the meet.
At last year's Allegheny Classic, the CWRU men placed fourth among 11 teams, including a 16th-place finish from Zach Roshon and a 22nd-place finish from Green. The CWRU women finished second among 11 teams, led by a fourth-place finish from Lindemann and a seventh-place finish for Jennifer Hoffmann. Both course records were set at last year's meet, with unattached Chelsea Poole recording a new women's record of 17:51, while Allegheny's John Hughes set the men's mark at 20:03.
The CWRU men's squad will enter this year's meet as the ninth-ranked team in the Great Lakes Region poll, entering the poll for the first time this season, while the women are ranked seventh in the region, climbing three spots from the preseason poll.
Scheduled to be competing for the Spartan men on Saturday are seniors Robert Iriye, Marc Parnell, Ben Resnick, and Roshon, juniors Tim Andrews, Green, David Hall, Michael Hradesky, Michael Klein, Karthik Ravichandran, and Luke Robbins, sophomores Daniel Grasing, Rory Owens, Thomas Patton, Yoshmar Pinal-Alfaro, Eric Rachita, Trey Razanauskas, and Ryan Tatton, and freshmen Maxwell Griesheimer, Christopher Heermann, Rahul Mikkilineni, Bryden Moxley and Spencer Weigand. Slated to be in action for the women are seniors Maria DeRenzo, Hoffmann, Marissa Miyagi, Ellen Sears, Isa Torres-Padin, and Sophie Trikeriotis, juniors Shahed Eid, Lindemann, Mallorie Mitchem, and Vanessa Pasadyn, sophomores Olivia Battistoni, Cara Giannuzzi, Grace Kemerer, Kiera Olson, and Madison Vargo and freshmen Susanna Henry, Claire Keanna, Julia Kocherzat, and Maddy Nacci.
In addition to the Spartans and host Allegheny, 12 other men's and women's teams will make up the field for the meet, including Capital, Carnegie Mellon, Chatham, Edinboro, Gannon, Kent State-Trumbill, Kent State-Tuscarawas, Mount Aloysius, PSU-DuBois, Thiel, Washington & Jefferson and Waynesburg.
Regionally ranked men's squads at the meet include Carnegie Mellon (no. 2 in the Mideast) and Washington & Jefferson (no. 8 in the Mideast), while regionally-ranked teams on the women's side include Allegheny (no. 1 in the Great Lakes), Carnegie Mellon (no. 3 in the Mideast), and Waynesburg (no. 8 in the Mideast).
