Lindemann & Green Claim Individual Titles as Spartans Sweep Sudeck Sunset Classic Stampede

Case Western Reserve University junior Madeline Lindemann finished first in the women's 4,000-meter race, and junior Andrew Green claimed a victory in the men's 6,000-meter race to help pace the Spartans to a sweep in the teams' season-opening meet, the Sudeck Sunset Classic Stampede at the Squire Valleevue Farm in Hunting Valley, Ohio on Friday afternoon.

The CWRU women placed three runners among the top five at the event and six among the top-10 to claim the team victory.  The Spartans finished the meet with a score of 26, followed by John Carroll University with 30 points, and Ursuline College with 80 points.

Lindemann led the way for the women in dominating fashion, finishing the course in a time of 15:23.0, for than 22 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.  Sophomore Kiera Olson placed third overall with a time of 16:01.7, and senior Jennifer Hoffmann added a fifth-place finish with a time of 16:12.8.  Rounding out the Spartans' top-five were senior Isa Torres-Padin in eighth-place with a time of 16:18.2 and senior Ellen Sears in ninth-place with a time of 16:31.2.  Freshman Julia Kocherzat claimed 10th-place in the race with a mark of 16:36.7, and senior Sophie Trikeriotis completed the team's top-seven with a mark of 16:47.5, finishing 12th overall.

Meanwhile, the CWRU men scored 20 points, besting second-place John Carroll by 19 points in the team standings.  It marked the Spartans' first win at the meet since the 2015 season.

Green secured the individual title with a time of 19:38.2, narrowly besting sophomore teammate Yoshmar Pinal-Alfaro, who placed second with a time of 19:39.2.  Also securing top-five finishes for CWRU were senior Zach Roshon in fourth-place with a time of 19:55.8 and sophomore Eric Rachita in fifth-place with a time of 20:05.0.

Freshman Spencer Weigand completed the Spartans' top-five scorers, finishing eighth with a time of 20:09.0.  Junior David Hall placed ninth with a time of 20:14.4, and sophomore Trey Razanauskas followed in 10th place with a time of 20:15.7.

The Spartans will be back in action on Saturday, September 15th at the Gator Invitational in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
